Artisan Winery BBQ Lunch & Wine Tasting in Requena
Wines/lunch in courtyard + swimming pool
A rustic trip to a small artisan garagiste cellar but first we make a short visit to La Villa de Requena, a walk through history with the 10thC castle & 14thC Gothic church facades. Leaving Requena behind we have a guided field visit walking through old bush vine vineyards of Bobal, Garnacha, Macabeo & Tardana varieties . The winemaker will explain pruning and the life cycle of these old vineyards with a Bobal tasting in the vineyard.
Arriving at the bodega the owner/winemaker & myself will explain the history of the original restored house & cellar & how the wines are still made in a most natural way. They practice organic certified farming and have cared for the land for 4 generations. Manual pruning, harvesting in small boxes with rigorous selection & using the grapes own natural yeasts are important aspects for these artisan wines.
You will taste the range of dry red, white & rosé wines inc. my own Martán Bobal wine..barrel tastings may also be possible (time of year) .
Rustic BBQ lunch in a restored winery
The former winery/house has been restored to offer lunch in the courtyard with new swimming pool to dip your toes with glazed covered veranda dining area. A rustic, robust typical lunch “a la brasa” (bbq) of DOP Requena embutido (cured & seasoned meats/sausages inc. chorizo con Cava, salchichón, morcilla, longaniza, lomo etc.) Served with fresh bread, local ex. virgin olive oil & olives & salad complimented by barrel aged red, fresh racy rosé, rare Tardana white wines of the bodega & also my own artisan Bobal. A tranquil village ..a world away from modern life. Chill and chat to the winemaker over lunch…
In summer why not take a dip in the new pool with shower & bathroom facility on site. Escape the city and sample local wine & savoury fare open air!

Itinerary
- Pickup at hotel by Mercedes Vito in Valencia 10:00hrs with walkabout historic visit to la Villa Requena. OR 11:00hrs if omitting Requena town walkabout visit. Other times by enquiry.
- Guided field visit with the winemaker of the old Bush vines of Bobal, Garnacha, Tardana & some local mixed varieties. Then we enter the bodega and the owner will explain the bodega history with a guided tasting of the red, white & rosado wines. (5-6 wines). Barrel tastings may also be possible .
- A Rustic lunch cooked " a la brasa" (bbq) of DOP Requena Embutido, local fresh pan, local ex. virgin olive oil & olives + ensalada complimented by the various barrel aged red, rare tardana white, fresh racy rosé wines of the bodega plus my own Martán Bobal wine. ...more than a tasting with 5 quality wines to choose from and ample wine in your glasses! Option to puchase wines from cellar.
